New Feature: Automatic Specification Detection

We are constantly looking for ways to streamline your manufacturing workflow and save you time. We’ve introduced Automatic Specification Detection to reduce manual data entry and help you submit requests for quotes (RFQs) in a fraction of the time.

When you upload your engineering drawings, our platform now automatically scans the technical documents to pre-fill your part configurations for you.

How it works

  1. Upload your drawings: Drag and drop your PDF engineering drawings into your project list as you normally would.

  2. Instant extraction: Our system automatically reads the entire document to identify core technical specifications, including Service line, Material, Surface Finish, Secondary finish, and Tightest Tolerances, Inspection requirements and whether you require any Part marking.

  3. Review and customise: The detected specifications will automatically populate in the right-hand configuration panel for each part.

You remain in complete control

While the platform does the heavy lifting to find and suggest the right specifications, final approval is always yours.

  • Verify before submitting: The system suggests values based on your drawing, but you are ultimately in control and responsible for the final configuration requested.

  • Easy overrides: You do not have to accept the automatically detected values. If you want to quote a part using a different material or finish than what is specified in the drawing, simply use the dropdown menus to change it at any time. Don't worry, we'll still show you what we detected from the drawing by showing that as the first option in the list for each Option in our configurator.

Secure Processing of your IP

Your intellectual property is our top priority.

  • Internal processing: All drawings are processed securely within Geomiq’s infrastructure to extract your specifications.

  • Commercial data protection: Your proprietary data and drawings are never used for external commercial purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take?

It usually takes between 15-30 seconds. But it can be up to a minute for complex, multi-page documents. Uploading a large number of drawings all at the same time, may cause a few PDFs to show no results. But you can always use the retry arrow to request again.

What happens if I upload multiple files for a single part?

The platform automatically extracts specifications from the first PDF file uploaded to that part. It will scan all pages within that specific file to pull the data. If you need the system to read a different file instead, simply remove the files from the part and upload the correct drawing on its own to trigger a fresh scan.

What if the system fails to detect specifications from my PDF?

If a drawing is low-resolution, highly complex, or the system cannot confidently read the data, it will indicate that zero items were found. You can manually enter your configurations at any time, or click the small retry arrow icon next to the detection status to ask the system to scan the document again.

Can I use this on drawings I uploaded before this feature was released?

Yes.
For any existing parts in your project list, just click the blue retry arrow icon next to the where we display the number of part configurations found, to prompt the system to scan and pre-fill your specifications right now.
